LDS EMERGENCY RESPONSE, ORANGE COUNTY  (LDSEROC) was organized under the direction of the Area Authority Seventy in November 2010 as part of the Orange County Public Affairs Council and tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate the Church's Orange County multi-stake response to emergency events, including information reporting.
  • Act as a primary Public Affairs emergency response spokesperson for the Church in Orange County.
  • Maintain a primary ER relationship with the Church Welfare Services organization and coordinate the same with the neighboring counties in the area.
  • Establish, coordinate, and maintain Church relationships with primary government, civic, and volunteer ER organization leadership: i.e. first responder agencies, FEMA, COAD-OC, Red Cross, etc.
  • Coordinate with Church leadership and legal, all agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with third parties pertaining to the use of church facilities and volunteer services in the event of an emergency.
  • Encourage greater stake, ward, and member involvement in local emergency response programs, including ham radio communications training and certification, Community Emergency Response Training (CERT), Neighbors Helping Neighbors, etc.
  • Be familiar with Stake Emergency Preparedness Plans and the primary stake leadership called to direct these plans.
  • Assist Stake Presidents and key leadership in strengthening response plans to assist members, neighborhoods, and communities.
  • Identify member resources (skills and equipment) available to assist in a major emergency.
  • Coordinate a bi-annual countywide emergency response training to assess readiness and identify areas for improvement.
LDSEROC has forged important relationships with city, county and government organizations that will be important during times of emergencies. We assist to coordinate preparedness and response activities in Orange County and participate as active committee members. Should a stake or ward be hosting a Preparedness Expo for the community, need first aid or CPR training and would like support from these organizations, LDSEROC can assist you in your efforts.
